Plumpton & East Chiltington Wildlife Group was founded in 2004 (originally as the Plumpton Habitat Survey Group) to:
> survey, monitor and map wildlife and their habitats in the local area,
> conserve and manage local habitats for the benefit of wildlife
> enthuse and involve local people in wildlife conservation
> advise and support local people to create havens for wildlife.
Back in 2004 the group completed a major survey of the Parish wildlife habitats https://plumptonwildlifegroup.weebly.com/our-wildlife-habitats.html
The Group is currently involved in many ongoing recording activities and surveys https://plumptonwildlifegroup.weebly.com/wildlife-surveys.html including dormouse, harvest mouse, moths, birds, butterflies and flora.
The Group has also been involved in the installation of bat, owl and bird boxes; the creation of new wildflower areas at Plumpton Station; advising local landowners and East Sussex County Council on wildflower meadow and verge management together with advising the Parochial Church Council on management of the wildflower-rich churchyards.
We also organise a number of events, including bat, nightingale, dawn chorus and nightjar walks, moth breakfasts, surveys, quizzes and other activities for PECWG members and other village residents.
In 2025 we embarked a new nature recovery project called ReNature Plumpton in partnership with Parish Council https://plumptonparishcouncil.gov.uk/community-links/nature-recovery-strategy
Membership costs £5.00 per household for a year and the income raised goes
towards funding new projects and equipment. Visit the Group’s Website at
