Local Government ReOrganisation

Please remember to respond to the Local Government ReOrganisation consultation by 11th January 2026. The Parish Council supports the option proposed by East Sussex County Council:-

East Sussex County Council, Eastbourne Borough Council, Hastings Borough Council, Lewes District Council and Rother District Council propose 2 unitary councils across the whole of the area of East Sussex and Brighton and Hove, comprising the current areas of:

  • A single unitary council covering Eastbourne, Hastings, Lewes, Rother and Wealden
  • Brighton and Hove to remain unchanged.

Consultation responses can be made online here:-  https://consult.communities.gov.uk/…/east-sussex…/

Parish Council Statement on Land West of Station Road

The Parish Council is aware that land to the west of Station Road has recently changed ownership, reportedly for housing purposes. At this stage, no planning application has been submitted to Lewes District Council (LDC), and the nature of the transfer remains unclear.

While the land has been registered as available for development, we understand that LDC is not intending to include the site in the new Local Plan. However, due to national planning rules introduced in 2019, this does not prevent speculative applications from being made.

Until LDC adopts its new Local Plan, our community remains vulnerable to such proposals—as seen with the Nolands development and others in nearby villages. The Parish Council will continue to monitor the situation closely, but at present, no action can be taken until a formal application is received.
